Welcome To Antietam Fly Anglers Fly Fishing Site
The Antietam Fly Anglers was organized in 1975 in
Hagerstown, Maryland as an affiliated club of the
Federation of Fly Fishers (FFF) and is now a
Charter Club of the FFF. To be an active member of
the Antietam Fly Anglers one must be a member of
the FFF.
The purpose of the Antietam Fly Anglers is to promote and encourage every aspect of the sport of fly fishing and fly tying and the conservation of fishing resources in the Tri-State area. The club actively functions at both the local club level and the regional area and draws membership from Maryland, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The Art of Fly Fishing, Fly Tying, Rod Building and support for instructional programs for Youth and Adult fly fishing activities are actively supported by the Antietam Fly Anglers.
A newsletter is sent to each member prior to the monthly meeting listing the program for that month and any other activities involving the club or the Federation.

A note from Matt Rosenthal - Beaver Creek Fly Shop (copied from his weekly email):
Please take some time in the near future to review as much information as you can find on the proposed Pebble Mine
in Bristol Bay, Alaska. The February 8th PVFF meeting included very informative presentations by Jen Willoughby
and Larry Forte. Thanks to both presenters for helping to get the word out about this potential mining effort
and the significant threat this mining operation would pose to one of the most remarkable ecosystems on the
planet. The incredible size of this mine, the size of the two tailings lakes proposed to contain the enormous
quantities of toxic waste generated, and the mineral mining industry's track record for causing devastating
environmental impacts makes this mine one of the largest threats to the Alaskan ecosystem. I urge all of you to
get involved, get the word out, and stay informed. I'll supply links to the appropriate members of Congress, the
White House, and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in the near future. Please review the available data
and information and make your opinion known. Individually, we can make a difference, united we can make a proposed
mine just a memory and help secure the future of one of the most beautiful places on earth.
Thanks for listening - hope to see you on the water!!

50 Ways to Help the Planet
Bob Stouffer has just returned from Massachusetts where he tested
for FFF fly casting certification. He then shared just a little of
his knowledge of fly casting in a Power Point Presentation and a
handout to all members present. Fly casting has its own vocabulary
and acronyms such as arc, stroke, drift, SLP (straight loop path),
loop shapes, curves, mends, acceleration, third class levers, fast,
medium and slow tapers and so on. His demonstrations with rod and
large orange yarn were very valuable and appreciated by all present.
Thank You, Bob, for a job very well done.
